Manchester based independent jewellery designer & maker Greig Alderman founded Cabbage is King in 2011, with the intention of creating a unique jewellery brand. Since conception, Greig has been selected for 3 major national initiatives, supporting ‘the best of new British jewellery design talent’. His work has featured on TV and in the private collection of Noel Fielding.

Inspired by a whole host of cultural phenomenon, including literature, dada, satirical cartoons, astronomy, and tattoos, Greig works in different styles creating both contemporary art jewellery and modern demi-fine jewellery. The bespoke jewellery design process is a journey, steered only by the limits of the materials, processes and requisite functionality. Unusual jewellery designs are rarely planned but found; an initial idea finds expression through a process of exploration, manipulating form in the pursuit of originality, balance, and beauty. There exhibits a sculptural quality to much of Greig's work, an attempt to communicate more than the gleaming apparent, to create unique jewellery as wearable art.

Materials and techniques are selected for their quality and visual impact, high-grade gemstones, precious metal alloys, and mixed media combine with traditional hand skills and cutting-edge technologies. The resulting craft is exquisite, beautifully made and thoughtfully considered; outputting low volume bespoke jewellery collections, singular unique jewellery pieces and very occasional objets d'art.

Greig's unique jewellery is currently only available on this website, through commission, or by appointment at his Manchester based studio. All processes are managed in house, including CAD design, 3D printing, gem sourcing, micro-setting, enamelling, and gold plating. Please contact Greig to discuss your ideas.
